Erie, PA – The fifth seeded D'Youville softball team lost their opening round playoff game of the AMCC softball tournament on Friday afternoon, falling to the fourth seeded Franciscan Barons by the final score of 2-1.
Ashley Carney (Clarence, NY/Clarence) began the game with a double to right center in the top of inning number one. She then advanced to third as Rylie Russo (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) reached on an error where she then stole second. A sac-fly from pitcher Alexa Haberer (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) would score Carney from third as the Spartans led 1-0.
Franciscan came back with a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at one. No runs were scored by either team through the following three innings until the Barons scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 2-1. D'Youville was unable to recover as they fell to Franciscan 2-1.
Haberer went 6.0 innings in the game, striking out four and allowed two earned runs.
The Spartans will next face the third seeded Pitt.-Bradford Panthers tomorrow at 9:00am. The winner of the game will advance to play later in the day with the loser being eliminated from the tournament.
