Softball Ends Season in Extra Innings against Behrend

Erie, PA – The fifth seeded D'Youville softball team went to extra innings for the second time on Saturday as the Spartans fell to the first seeded Penn State-Behrend Lions 2-1 and were eliminated from the AMCC playoffs.

Behrend scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 lead. D'Youville came back to tie the game in the top of the second inning as Alexa Haberer (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) led off the inning with an error. Two batters later, Brittaney Goodrich (Eden, NY/Eden) doubled to score Haberer and tie the game at 1-1.

No runs were scored between the two teams until the bottom of the eighth. The Lions were able to score the game-winning run with one out to take the game 2-1.

Mikaela Milleville (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), Goodrich, and Victoria Purucker (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) each tallied a hit with Goodrich tallying the lone RBI. Goodrich also went 7.1 innings in the game, allowing two earned runs and she struck out two.

Both Haberer and Ashley Carney (Clarence, NY/Clarence) were named to the all-tournament team.
