AMCC Announces Preseason Poll for Softball

Buffalo, NY - The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) released their softball preseason polls this week with the D'Youville softball team expected to extend their current playoff appearance streak.

D'Youville was selected to finish in fifth place in 2020 as the women finished fifth in 2019 with a 9-9 conference record. Alfred State will join the AMCC as a full-time member for softball this season.

Senior outfielder Ashley Carney (Clarence, NY/Clarence) and junior pitcher Alexa Haberer (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) were pegged as the team's players to watch for the 2020 season.

Carney is one of the best players in the AMCC and a two-time AMCC First Team All-Conference players from each of the last two seasons and an AMCC Third Team All-Conference selection as a freshman in 2017. She finished second in the conference in batting average (.467), on base percentage (.544), and slugging percentage (.682) while finishing in the top-10 of walks, triples, hits, and doubles. She led the Spartans in RBI, runs scored, homeruns, hits, walks, doubles, and was second in triples.

As for Haberer, the power right-handed thrower was tied for first in the conference in innings pitched (128.0), third in complete games (16), fourth in strikeouts (88), and tied for seventh in wins (8). She pitched her first career no-hitter against Hibert while contributed at the plate as she finished tied for second in RBI (19) and fourth in batting average (.324).

Mount Aloysius is expected to take first yet again in the AMCC in 2020 with the Preseason Player of the Year - the reigning AMCC Player of the Year. Pen State Behrend is expected to finish second while Franciscan is pegged to finish third, the AMCC runner-ups in 2019.

The AMCC coaches poll is voted on by all coaches in the AMCC. They vote and rank the teams and how they expect them to finish in the AMCC for the upcoming season, as well as vote on preseason awards.
