Clermont, FL - D'Youville softball head coach and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ona Halladay made history on Saturday evening as she earned her 100th win with the program.
The Spartans defeated Mass.-Dartmouth 5-0 Saturday afternoon for career win 100 in the first game of the team's spring training trip in Florida. She then earned win 101 in a 3-2 victory over Geneva in their second game of the doubleheader.
Halladay began her career with D'Youville in 2013-14 and led the women to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) playoffs and a fifth place finish in the regular season. The team would then take off in 2014-15 as the women went 25-9, winning the AMCC regular season title with five all-conference players, the pitcher of the year, and Halladay's first AMCC Coach of the Year crown.
A similar result would take place for Halladay and the Spartans in 2015-16 as the women repeated another AMCC regular season title, earning her second consecutive AMCC Coach of the Year title. Since then, Halladay and the women have reached the AMCC playoffs two of the last three years - including the last two seasons.
In total, Halladay has won two regular season AMCC titles, two AMCC Coach of the Year awards, coach a three-time AMCC Pitcher of the Year, and coach her players to a total of 19 AMCC all-conference players. In addition, four former players of Halladay's have gone onto have coaching careers with the Spartans in Shannon Evans, Sarah Marino, Kalie McHenry, and Darian Evans.
While she has boasted a talented team on the field, Halladay has coached 41 AMCC Academic All-Conference players,
Off the field, Halladay is just as much of a leader. In the summer of 2019, Ona was promoted to Director of Intercollegiate Athletics for D'Youville. She has successfully expanded the department in terms of personnel, coverage, student-athlete welfare, goals, expectations, and has helped move the institution boldly forward.
In addition to her role as head softball coach, Halladay was the department's Senior Women's Administrator and Compliance Director. She was promoted to Associate Director of Athletics in the summer of 2018 while maintaining her SWA and compliance roles.
Ona graduated from SUNY Brockport in 2010 with her Bachelors in Psychology. She was a two-time All-SUNYAC softball selection as a member of the Golden Eagles. The native of Palmyra, New York began her collegiate career playing at St. John's University for two seasons where she was a two year letter winner.
After completing her undergraduate degree, in 2010 Halladay became involved in the coaching staff at St. Bonaventure where she was the Assistant Coach under long-time SBU coach Mike Threehouse. Under Halladay's direction, players were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team and the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team, and the team was ranked 17th in the country for home runs during the 2011 season. With instruction from Halladay on her hitting techniques, St. Bonaventure player Ashley Snider was able to break the SBU career home run record.
In 2018, Halladay earned her Masters in Sports Administration from Canisius College.
