Spartans Continue to Win with Monday Split

Clermont, FL - The D'Youville softball team added to their win total on Monday afternoon as they defeated the North Park Vikings 3-1 and loss to the Alfred Saxons 4-8.

D'Youville got going on offense in the second inning against North Park with Jamie Bower (Middleport, NY/Royalton-Hartland) reaching on an error with one out. She would then move to second in the next at-bat and then third on a wild pitch. A single from Mikaela Milleville (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) single to right would bring Bower home for the early 1-0 lead.

A second run would come from the Spartans in the fourth as Alexa Haberer (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) singled up the middle to begin the inning.She would then move to second and third on consecutive groundouts, but then come home with Milleville again picking up an RBI with a double to extend the lead to 2-0.

Megan Meyer (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) would lead off the fifth with a single, advancing to third in the next two at-bats. Jackie Langer (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) then came to bat, singling through the left side as Meyer scored to increase the lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, North Park would get a run back but that was all they could muster as the Spartans went on to win their fifth straight game by the score of 3-1.

Haberer again had an outstanding day pitching, going another 7.0 innings with just three hits allowed, one earned run, and one strikeout. At the plate she went 1-4 with a run scored.

Langer and Madisyn Pepke (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), Langer, and Milleville had two hits each while Langer tallied an RBI and Milleville accounted for two.

Game two of the day saw the Spartans take on the Alfred Saxons and fall behind in the first inning with the Saxons scoring three to lead 3-0. They would then add a run in the third and fourth innings to go ahead 5-0.

Milleville would single to the shortstop to begin the bottom of the fifth, then stealing second. The bases would then load with Ashley Carney (Clarence, NY/Clarence) reaching on a fielder's choice and driving in Milleville to put the Spartans on the board.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Spartans would make a game of it. Brittaney Goodrich (Eden, NY/Eden) singled to get things going. Bower would then reach on an error with Maya Blackwell (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) singling to load the bases. Haberer would single in Goodrich, followed by Meyer doubling in two more runs to make the score 4-5 at the end of six.

However, Alfred would pour it on in the seventh as they scored three runs and went on to win the game 8-4.

Carney led the team with two hits, adding an RBI. Meyer picked up two RBI and a hit with Haberer, Carly Milleville (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), Mikaela Milleville, Blackwell, and Goodrich all tallying hits. 

Laura Gregory (Buffalo, NY/Mount Mercy) got the start and went 4.0 innings with two earned runs. Goodrich pitched 2.0 innings with three strikeouts and one hit while Mary Andreano (Greece, NY/Greece Athena) pitched an inning.

The Spartans will next play on Wednesday against Alverno at 11:00am and Penn State-Hazleton at 1:15pm.
