Leesburg, FL - The D'Youville softball team closed out their trip to the sunshine state on Thursday afternoon as they fell to the Marian Sabres 5-0 and defeated the Skidmore Thoroughbreds 1-0.
Marian did damage consistently throughout the first several innings. They scored a run in each of the first three innings, followed by two in the fourth as they went on to win the game 5-0.
Ashley Carney (Clarence, NY/Clarence), Jackie Langer (Wexford, PA/Pine Richland), Jamie Bower (Middleport, NY/Royalton-Hartland), and Mikaela Milleville (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) recorded one hit each in the game. Alexa Haberer (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) suffered her first loss of the season as she pitched 6.0 innings, allowing two earned runs with three strikeotus.
The lone run of game two against Skidmore came in the bottom of the first from the Spartans. Carney reached base to lead off after getting hit by a pitch. Madisyn Pepke (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) would then single on a bunt, moving Carney to third. The two would then execute a double-steal with Carney scoring on the team's way to a 1-0 victory.
Milleville went 3-3 in the game with the top three hitters of Carney, Pepke, and Langer each tallying a hit. Bower added a hit as well in the win.
Laura Gregory (Buffalo, NY/Mount Mercy) picked up her second win of the season as she pitched a complete game shutout with 7.0 innings pitched, three hits, and a strikeout.
With the win, D'Youville brought their season win total to eight. Their 8-2 record in Florida is the team's best Florida record in program history.
