Women's Basketball Defeated in Season Opener

Meadville, PA-Opening the season on the road is tough. Playing the host in their own Invitational is also tough. And that made it a tough night all around for the D'Youville women's basketball team as they were defeated 93-59 at Allegheny College.

Sophomore forward Alexis Smith (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) picked right up where she left off last season. Smith scored a team-high 18 points, 12 coming in the second-half, and grabbed 7 rebounds. Dating back to last season, this is the 13th straight game Smith has scored in double-figures.

Last season Danette Laguerre (Buffalo, NY/East) had her promising rookie campaign cut short due to injury. Tonight the sophomore returned to the starting lineup, scored 15 points, and grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds.

The Spartans conclude play in the Gene Richards '08 Memorial Classic with a game versus Marietta College (OH) tomorrow (Nov. 16) at 3:00 p.m.
