Buffalo, NY – Saturday, February 4 inside the College Center Gym marked a historic day for the lone senior of the D'Youville women's basketball team.
Jean-Ann Korona (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) became the ninth player in program history to surpass the 1,000 point plateau on Saturday, currently sitting at 1,027 points for her career. Korona is experiencing a career year across the board, including scoring 362 points this season, nearly 100 points more than her previous season scoring high.
The 5-10 guard/forward combo is coming off her best year as a Spartan, finishing the season second in scoring and first in rebounding. She was one of two players on the team to be named an AMCC Third Team All-Conference selection as the team made the conference semifinals as the four seed.
In this, her final season with D'Youville, Jean-Ann leads the team with 17.2 PPG, 8.1 RPG and a 39.9 FG%. She is second on the team with 31.6 MPG, 2.3 SPG, 2.4 APG and 1.0 BPG and started all 21 games for the Spartans. Her outstanding scoring and rebounding are some of the best in the AMCC as she is tied for third in the conference in scoring and is tied for sixth in rebounding.
Being the top scorer and rebounder on the team, Korona has recorded five double-doubles this season to lead the team. She has eight games of 20-plus scoring, six games of double-digit rebounds and scored double-digits in all but one game this season. Her season and career high of 26 came on December 29 against Salem State.
Combined in her career, the Washingtonville, NY native has averaged 10.7 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 1.8 APG, 1.8 APG and 1.0 BPG. She has proven to be an extremely versatile player that has a multi-faceted game.
