Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's basketball team suffered their second consecutive conference loss on Saturday evening, falling to the La Roche Redhawks 83-59.
La Roche was up early over D'Youville with an 11-2 lead after 2:24 of game action. Throughout the quarter, the Redhawks were red hot on offense. The Spartans pulled to within seven points the La Roche but the Redhawks would continue to score, holding a 26-15 lead after the first quarter.
The points continued to come for the Redhawks in the second, but D'Youville started to get going themselves. Their deficit remained 11 through the first four minutes, but La Roche expanded their lead to 17 nearly half way through the second. With 4:35 to go in the half, the Redhawks lead grew to 20 and they were able to keep that 20-point lead through the remainder of the half as they took a 48-28 lead into the half.
It remained a comfortable lead for La Roche in the third quarter of play, leading 59-38 half way through. D'Youville cut the lead to 16 at the end of the third, but it was too much for the women to overcome. The Redhawks again poured it on in the fourth and grew their lead even further to 24 as they won the game 83-59.
D'Youville had three women score in double-figures. Monica June (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech), Darian Evans (Brant, NY/Lake Shore), and Sara Field (Durhamville, NY/VVS) each had 10 points. Field, CeDrice Howard (University Place, WA/Curtis), and Sydney Alton (Hannibal, NY/Hannibal) each had six rebounds.
Kelsey Carpenter (Hilton, NY/Hilton) scored a career high seven points with Briana Dotterweich (Depew, NY/Depew) adding two points. Callie Rapant (Alexandra Bay, NY/Lafargeville), Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic), and Morgan Lehman (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove) played valuable minutes for the Spartans.
The next game for D'Youville comes this Monday, January 15 as the women host the Hilbert Hawks at 8:00pm.
