Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's basketball team fell to the visiting Hilbert Hawks on Monday evening by the final score of 66-45.
Hilbert was out in front of the Spartans to begin the game after taking a 12-6 lead in the first quarter. D'Youville trimmed that lead to three with a Sydney Alton (Hannibal, NY/Hannibal) three, but the Hawks would eventually grow their lead to seven. By the end of the quarter, Hilbert would add another point to their existing total and lead D'Youville 22-14.
It didn't take long for the Hawks to take over the game in the second quarter. They shut the Spartans out for the first 5:13 while scoring 12 points of their own to take a 34-14 lead. Hilbert continued to play hard at both ends of the court as their advantage grew to 26 as they took a 46-20 lead into halftime.
The third quarter was a similar performance from the two teams as the second. The Hawks extended their lead to 30 at 54-24 while D'Youville struggled on offense. Hilbert continued to push forward and led 60-28 after three.
D'Youville's best offensive quarter of the game was saved for the fourth, outscoring Hilbert 17-6. However the Hawks lead was insurmountable as the Spartans fell to Hilbert by the final of 66-45.
Jordan Smith (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) had team highs with 11 points and seven rebounds, followed by Darian Evans (Brant, NY/Lake Shore) with 10. CeDrice Howard (University Place, WA/Curtis) added six points while Kelsey Carpenter (Hilton, NY/Hilton) scored two points with five rebounds. Alton had six rebounds with five points.
The next game for the women comes this Wednesday, January 17 as they will play Medaille at Medaille. Tip-off will be at 8:00pm.
