Roanoke, VA - The D'Youville women's basketball team played in day two of the Jim Beamer Tip-Off Classic hosted by Roanoke as they lost to the Centre Colonels 56-34.
Centre came out and played well on both ends of the court. They went up 15-0 on the Spartans before D'Youville would get on the board. The Colonels would close out there impressive first quarter with a three as they led 18-3 after one.
As the second quarter went on, it was a similar showing from both teams. Elizabeth Bradley (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) made a layup with under a minute to go for the final basket of the half with the score 30-9 after 20 minutes of play.
Bradley shouldered the scoring load in the third with five of the team's first seven points in the quarter. Brigid McKeone (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) finished off the scoring for the Spartans in the third as D'Youville trailed 45-18.
The Spartans saved their best offense quarter for last. Bradley again was the leader on the offensive end for D'Youville with the first five points of the fourth before Emmalea Erlandson (West Valley, NY/Ellicottville) scored six straight on the team's way to a 16-point quarter. However, the women could not get all the way back as the fell 56-34.
With 12 points, Bradley led the team in scoring and posted her second consecutive game of scoring in double-figures. Erlandson was second on the team with nine points while Danielle Hore (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) led the team with four rebounds and four assists.
Elyse VanAuken (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) grabbed three rebounds in the game while dishing out three assists. Sarah Wittek (Elma, NY/Iroquois) also had three rebounds in the game, as did Sydney Alton (Hannibal, NY/Hannibal).
The next game for the women will come this Wednesday, November 20 as they open up their conference schedule at Hilbert at 8:00pm.
