Buffalo, NY - With another strong week to begin her Spartan career, freshman guard/forward Haley Kirisits (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) was named AMCC Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Beginning on Wednesday against the Hilbert Hawks, Haley helped lead the team to a 60-47 victory over the defending conference champions with a team-high 18 points. Shooting 8-12 from the field, Kirisits played 38 of 40 minutes while grabbing three rebounds with two assists and two steals.
She then followed up with her second double-double of the season on Saturday in an overtime loss to Keuka. The freshman scored 14 points with 12 rebounds with three steals and two assists as she played all 45 minutes in the game.
The freshman currently leads the team with 11.5 PPG and 7.2 RPG through six career games - five of which she has started. Her 46.7 FG% leads the team as well with Haley scoring double-figures in four of six games this season.
At Lancaster High School, Haley played four years of basketball and four years of softball. In basketball, Kirisits was named her team MVP and was an ECIC Second Team selection. She also played club basketball for Full Court Hoops and club softball for the WNY Sting.
On why she chose D'Youville, Haley said "D'Youville feels like home. It has a great program for the job I want to pursue. Everyone is very kind and helpful. I wanted to be a part of the basketball program and better myself through it. The coaches and players are very welcoming and make me feel like part of the family."
Haley is a Psychology major and the daughter of Susan and Jeffery Kirisits.
