Altoona, PA - The D'Youville women's basketball team suffered a loss to the Penn State-Altoona Lions on Saturday afternoon by the final score of 90-63 in the AMCC Game of the Week.
The Lions jumped out to an early 6-1 lead before expanding their lead to seven minutes later. Danielle Hore (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) closed the gap with a made jumper as the Spartans trailed 13-10. Near the end of the first, Altoona brought their lead back up to six before a Sydney Alton (Hannibal, NY/Hannibal) made a layup in the final second of the first as D'Youville were behind by four at 22-18 at the end of one.
Altoona would begin the second by going on a 10-2 run through the first three-plus minutes to extend their lead. Riley Riedel (Marilla, NY/Iroquois) would hit a three to make it an 11-point game half way through the second as the Spartans tried to fight their way back into the game. However, the lead would grow for the Lions as they led at halftime 48-30.
Throughout the second, Altoona continued to pour it on. Elizabeth Bradley (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) would convert an and-one with 3:52 to go in the third to trail 57-41. The advantage for the Lions grew to 68-47 after three quarters and D'Youville was unable to overcome their deficit as the fell to Altoona by the final score of 90-63.
Alton and Hore led the team in scoring with 10 points each with Alton tallying six rebounds and three steals while Hore tallied five boards and two steals. Brigid McKeone (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) led the starters with eight rebounds in her first career start, adding seven points. Haley Kirisits (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) and Bradley scored six points each as Kirisits added five rebounds with Bradley tallying three.
Sarah Wittek (Elma, NY/Iroquois) led the team with nine rebounds in just 12 minutes of action, adding seven points. Emmalea Erlandson (West Valley, NY/Ellicottville) also scored five points while Riedel scored five. Becca Krenzer (Pavilion, NY/Batavia-Notre Dame) scored four points with Ashley Schenkel (Webster, NY/Webster-Thomas), Elyse VanAuken (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford), Hanna Wozniak (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), and Kelsey Carpenter (Hilton, NY/Hilton) all playing quality minutes.
The next game for the women will come this Wednesday as they host Medaille at 8:00pm in their final game before the holiday break.
