Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's basketball team won their third consecutive game on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Franciscan Barons by the final score of 48-43.
Things started slowly on offense for both teams with Danielle Hore (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) scoring the first basket of the game on a three after 2:58 of play. As the first progressed, D'Youville pulled out to a 9-5 lead following a Haley Kirisits (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) layup. However, Franciscan would tie the game at 10 in the final minute of the first before Hore put the Spartans back up by two on a made jumper with the team leading 12-10 after one.
The Barons tallied the first two baskets of the second as they took the lead through two minutes. Sara Pfeiffer (Olean, NY/Olean) then answered with five consecutive points for the women to give them the advantage yet again. With a layup at the 4:40 mark of the second, the Barons tied the game at 17. Neither team would score a basket for the next 4:06 before Pfeiffer scored her sixth and seventh consecutive points for the Spartans and sent the women into halftime leading 19-17.
With D'Youville holding that 19-17 to begin the half, the lead would change hands or the score would be tied nine times through the first seven minutes of play. Pfeiffer would ultimately give the Spartans lead that was increased following an Elizabeth Bradley (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) layup. Becca Krenzer (Pavilion, NY/Batavia-Notre Dame) would drill a jumper in the final seconds of the quarter to increase the D'Youville lead to 35-31 after three.
Krenzer came up big for the women to begin the fourth as she scored the first two baskets to put the Spartans up 39-32 through the first 3:36. Franciscan would come back to tie the game at 39 but Krenzer and Sydney Alton (Hannibal, NY/Hannibal) would score all 13 points in the quarter to pull the Spartans ahead and give them the victory as D'Youville won their third straight game by the final score of 48-43.
Pfeiffer led the team with 18 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Hore added nine points and tied Pfeiffer for the team lead with eight rebounds while Krenzer scored nine points off the bench. Alton scored six in the win with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in the game.
