Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's basketball team lost for the first time in their last three games on Monday afternoon as they were defeated by the Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats by the final score of 58-45.
Sara Pfeiffer (Olean, NY/Olean) started off hot from deep for the Spartans, drilling a pair of threes to put D'Youville up 6-2. Following Pfeiffer's second three, Greensburg would go on a 10-1 run before Danielle Hore (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) hit a jumper that made the score 12-9 in favor of the Bobcats. Pfeiffer would then end the quarter the same way she started by hitting a pair of threes as D'Youville trailed 17-15 after one.
Kelsey Carpenter (Hilton, NY/Hilton) kept the Spartans in the game with the first four points of the second as the game was tied at 19. The Bobcats would capture a seven-point lead with 4:00 to go in the second and then hold a 31-25 just 1:04 later. From that point on, the Spartans would hold Geensburg scoreless and score seven unanswered to take a 32-31 lead into halftime.
The third quarter saw both teams struggle offensively. D'Youville continued to hold the Bobcats offense back as the Spartans didn't allow Greensburg to score until 3:41 remained in the third. Hore scored the first seven points for the women in the quarter that put D'Youville up 39-37. Greensburg scored a three with 2:08 left in the quarter, to put them ahead, but a Becca Krenzer (Pavilion, NY/Batavia-Notre Dame) jumper gave the Spartans the lead back at the end of the third by the score of 41-40.
For all of their lack of scoring in the third, the Bobcats exploded at both ends of the court in the fourth. Greensburg outscored the Spartans 19-4 to take the game by the final of 58-45.
Hore recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, adding a team high five assists. Pfeiffer scored 18 points to go with her five rebounds. Carpenter scored four points while Riley Riedel (Marilla, NY/Iroquois) scored a pair of points with three rebounds and three blocks off the bench. Emmalea Erlandson (Ellicottville, NY/West Valley) grabbed five rebounds with Krenzer scoring two points.
The next game for the women will be this Wednesday, January 22 at Penn State-Behrend. Tip-off will be at 8:00pm.
