Women's Basketball Sees Season End in AMCC Semifinals

Pittsburgh, PA - The #3 D'Youville women's basketball team saw their season come to an end Friday evening in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Semifinals by the final score of 74-64 to the #2 Hilbert Hawks.

D'Youville went up early over Hilbert thanks to the two Sara(h)s. Sarah Wittek (Elma, NY/Iroquois) scored three points with Sara Pfeiffer (Olean, NY/Olean) adding five for an 8-3 Spartan lead through the first 2:34 of play. Nearly five minutes later, the Hawks would come back to take the lead at 11-10 as they went on an 8-2 scoring run to overtake D'Youville. By the end of the first, the Hawks would begin to pull away as they led 22-15 after 10 minutes of play.

After nearly three minutes of play in second, the Hawk's lead grew to 10. D'Youville would bring their deficit back down to seven at 27-34 following an Emmalea Erlandson (West Valley, NY/Ellicottville) layup with 3:04 to go in the half. However, Hilbert added to their lead before the halftime horn and rebuild it to double-digits as the Hawks led 37-27 at halftime.

It didn't take long for the Spartans to trim the Hilbert lead in the third as Danielle Hore (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) scored a layup to make the score 34-39. Pfeiffer would then score a layup and drill a three to make it a one-point game at 41-42 before Erlandson and Pfeiffer scored to cap off an 11-0 scoring run to put the women back in the driver's seat at 45-42. The two teams would continue to battle throughout the remainder of the quarter until Erlandson hit a free throw to tie the game with the two rivals deadlocked at 52-52 through three quarters.

The lead changed hands several times in the first few minutes of the fourth with the Spartans leading 58-57 through 3:23 of the fourth. Hilbert would then go on a scoring run, outscoring D'Youville 9-2 over the next four minutes with the Hawks going ahead 66-60. In the final minutes, the Spartans would push to get close the gap on their deficit, but the reigning AMCC champions were too much down the stretch as D'Youville fell 74-64.

Hore led the team with 23 points, six rebounds, and six assists with Pfeiffer adding 17 points. Wittek grabbed six rebounds while Erlandson scored 11 big points to go with five rebounds. Riley Riedel (Marilla, NY/Iroquois) grabbed five rebounds with Elizabeth Bradley (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) scoring six. Haley Kirisits (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) grabbed five boards with two points.

Sydney Alton (Hannibal, NY/Hannibal), Brigid McKeone (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg), Kelsey Carpenter (Hilton, NY/Hilton), and Becca Krenzer (Pavilion, NY/Batavia-Notre Dame) each saw time in the game.
