Women's Crew Battles Canisius, UB in First Fall Race

Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's crew team raced in their first competition of the fall season on Saturday morning, taking on Canisius and the University at Buffalo at West Side Rowing Club.

D'Youville rowed in three races, with times of 14:42.99 and 14:59.16 for the second and third races. Each race the team took part in was a 3k with the women narrowly losing to Buffalo in their second race.

The lineup for the team was as follows:

Coxswain: Elaine Dersam (Alden, NY/Alden)

Stroke: Karly Dempsey (Niagara Falls, ON, CA/St. Paul)

Two: Carlie Pettit (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy)

Three: Bridget Degan (Buffalo, NY/Nardin)

Bow: Danielle Connolly (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham)

Saturday's race was Dersam's first time as coxswain for the women while it was Pettit's first career collegiate race.

The next race for the women will come on Saturday, September 30 as they travel to Hamilton for the William Smith Heron Challenge.
