Buffalo, NY– The D'Youville Women's Crew team is back for the 2019-20 season and are looking to use their experience to lead the way.
Returning to the team in lone senior Theresa Rusch (Tonawanda, NY/ Mt. St. Mary Academy). Rusch was the winner of the team's MVP award last season. As the team's stroke, she set the tone and pace for the rest of her boat and team.
Also back are juniors Kaitlyn Furtado (Acushnet, MA/ Fairhaven), Colleen Greaves (Amherst, NY/ Sweet Home), Alaina Hanlon (Orchard Park, NY/ Orchard Park), and Molly Schrack (Niagara Falls, NY/ Niagara Catholic). Last season, Greaves was the winner of the team's Spartan Award. As coxswain, Colleen helped lead her team. With two years under their belt, these Spartans will be looked at to help lead the team.
With no newcomers on the team, the sophomores on the team will need to push each other and use their collegiate experience from last year to help the team to even more successes this year. Christine Cimmerer (Clarence, NY/ Clarence) is one of these sophomores. Being the winner of the Most Improved award from last season, she will be looked at to keep expanding her role. Joining her is Julie Gibson (Tonawanda, NY/ Kenmore East), Vanessa Gittings (St. Catherines, Ont./ St. Francis), Madeline Kensinger (Lancaster, NY/ Lancaster), Anna Major (Orchard Park, NY/ Orchard Park), Melissa Morano (Eden, NY/Eden Senior), and Monica Schiltz (North Lawerence, NY/ Holy Name of Jesus Acadey).
The team's first race is at St. John Fisher on Sunday, September 29.
