Spartans Suffer Loss to Yellowjackets in Women's Lacrosse

Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville women's lacrosse team suffered their second loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling to the University of Rochester Yellowjackets by the final score of 17-1.

U of R was in control of the game throughout the first half. The Yellowjackets had a 12-0 lead before the Spartans got on the scoreboard. Amelia Gajewski (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) scored the first goal of the game for D'Youville with 7:10 remaining in the first half, making the game 12-1.

The Yellowjackets ended the first half with a 15-1 lead over D'Youville. In the second half, U of R dominated possession in the second, adding two goals to their lead. The final horn sounded and the University of Rochester defeated D'Youville by the final of 17-1.

Jillian Golding (Lockport, NY/Lockport) led the team with two shots and five ground balls. Gajewski scored the team's lone goal and recorded one shot, tied with Jean-Ann Korona (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) for second on the team.

Three different players tallied one ground ball, with Shannon Robillard (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) adding two. Golding and Gajewski each had two draw controls, with Korona tallying three.

The next game for the women comes on Wednesday, March 22 as they host Medaille at 5:30pm.
