Spartan's Offense Continues to Improve in Loss to Wolfpack

Keuka Park, NY – The D'Youville women's lacrosse team reached their highest goal total of the season Thursday afternoon in a 19-7 loss to the Keuka Wolfpack.

The Wolfpack established an early lead over the Spartans before they closed out the first half with three goals. Jillian Golding (Lockport, NY/Lockport) started the scoring for D'Youville with a goal on a free position shot. A few minutes later, Jean-Ann Korona (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) scored her first career goal and the team's second goal of the game. With under a minute left in the half, Callan Smith (Amherst, NY/Amherst) scored her first goal of the season, ending the half on a high note for the Spartans.

In the second half, D'Youville held their own by nearly matching Keuka's scoring output. Golding scored a pair of goals less than three minutes apart and made it a closer game. As the half went on, Amelia Gajewski (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) tallied her first goal of the game off an assist from Golding, followed by Gajewski assisting on Smith's second goal of the game. However the Wolfpack would hold on to win by the final score of 19-7.

Turning in a sound all-around game, Golding led the team with three goals, 13 shots, seven shots on goal, five draw controls and five caused turnovers. Paige Robinson (Kenmore, NY, Mt. St. Mary's Academy), Korona and Smith all tallied three shots in the game. Gajewski added six shots and two draw controls.

In goal, Sarah Raimondi (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) made her first appearance of the season and made five saves. She also tied for the team lead in ground balls with five. Smith chipped in with four ground balls as well.

The next game for the women comes this Saturday, April 1 as they travel to Franciscan to face the Barons at 1pm.
