Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville women's lacrosse team was defeated by the Hilbert Hawks on Wednesday evening by the final score of 20-4.
D'Youville took the lead to start the game, with Jean-Ann Korona (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) scoring her second goal of the season. After the opening goal, Hilbert would score seven unanswered goals to take a 7-1 lead. Jillian Golding (Lockport, NY/Lockport)added a pair of goals, before the half ended, but the Hawks would add five of their own and head into halftime with the score 12-3.
Hilbert was in control of the second half, outscoring the Spartans 8-1. Amelia Gajewski (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) recorded the lone goal for D'Youville, but the Hawks were too much as they went on to win by the final score of 20-4.
Callan Smith (Amherst, NY/Amherst) led the team with six ground balls in the game, adding a team high five caused turnovers. Golding led the team with two goals, while Gajewski and Korona each had a team high five shots. Korona added four ground balls, while Gajewski led the team with four draw controls.
The next game for the women is this Saturday, April 8 as the Spartans head to SUNY Canton to play the Kangaroos at 1pm.
