Women's Lacrosse Suffers Loss to SUNY Canton

Canton, NY – The D'Youville women's lacrosse team lost to the host SUNY Canton Kangaroos on Saturday afternoon by the final score of 18-2.

Canton was in possession for most of the first half, building a 9-0 lead going into the final three minutes of the half. On a free position shot with 2:44 left in the half, Amelia Gajewski (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) scored the first goal of the game for the Spartans, making it a 9-1 deficit going into halftime.

The Kangaroos came out in the second half and built on their lead. Up 14-1, Paige Robinson (Kenmore, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy) scored on a free position shot for D'Youville's second goal of the game and made it 14-2. However Canton would continue to roll to the final horn, winning the game by the final score of 18-2.

Goalie Bailey Tay (Victor, NY/Victor) made her second start of the season and made 12 saves over the full 60 minutes. She also led the team with four ground balls in the game. Kiernan Johnson (Cherry Valley, IL/Keith School) and Gajewski each had two ground balls while Gajewski added three draw controls.

D'Youville will host Alfred University this Wednesday, April 12 at 6pm for their next game.
