Hamburg, NY – The D'Youville women's lacrosse team finished their first NCAA season on Thursday evening, falling to the Hilbert Hawks by the final score of 23-9 in the AMCC Showcase.
Hilbert began the game by netting the first six goals. The Spartans would then get two goals from Jillian Golding (Lockport, NY/Lockport) to trail 7-2. Callan Smith (Amherst, NY/Amherst) added a goal from Amelia Gajewski (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) to make it 7-3, with Golding adding her third goal of the half with 1:10 to go. The Hawks added another goal before the halftime horn would sound, leading after 30 minutes 12-4.
D'Youville came out in the second half and was strong on offense. Jean-Ann Korona (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) scored the first goal of the half, followed by Golding scoring two of the next three goals as the team trailed 13-7. The Hawks would go on a run to take a 20-7 lead before Paige Robinson (Kenmore, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy) scored her first of the game to trail 20-8. Hilbert tallied three more goals before the game ended, with Gajewski scoring a goal to end the game and bringing it to the final score of 23-9.
Golding led the team with five goals, eight shots on goal and seven draw controls. Korona had a team high nine ground balls and also had three caused turnovers. Gajewski had a team high two assist with three ground balls.
In goal, Ashlee Landahl (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) played all 60 minutes, making nine saves. Smith was second on the team with four ground balls and tied with Korona for the team lead in caused turnovers with three. Cassidy Tripi (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) had three draw controls and two ground balls, adding two caused turnovers.
