Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville women's lacrosse team suffered their first lost off the season on Saturday afternoon as they were defeated by the University of Rochester Yellowjackets by the final score of 17-4.
It was a defensive battle early in the first half as the teams were scoreless through the first seven minutes of play. Rochester would break the scoreless draw with 7:29 elapsed on the clock as the game remained close over the next several minutes. After scoring two more goals over the next few minutes, the Yellowjackets would take control of the game and head into the half leading 9-0.
D'Youville would start the second half with their first goal of the game, scored by freshman Tiffany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield). Rochester would answer with the next two goals before Riley Riedel (Marilla, NY/Iroquois) would net her first of the game. As the game went on, the Yellowjackets would continue to increase their lead as Sierra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) added a pair of goals with the Spartans falling by the final score of 17-4.
Brooks scored a team high two goals as the freshmen of Cristofanelli and Riedel added one each. Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) made 14 saves with Amanda Waliszewski (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) leading the team with three ground balls. Five different Spartans each tallied two ground balls in the game while Cristofanelli led the team with three draw controls.
The next game for the women comes this Tuesday, March 12 as they host Buffalo State at 5:00pm.
