Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville women's lacrosse team fell to the Buffalo State Bengals at home on Tuesday evening by the final score of 15-4.
Buffalo State controlled the game in the first half, scoring the first four goals through the first 15:15 of play. Clarice Byrne (Boston, NY/Hamburg) then scored the first goal of her career with 13:48 to go in the half off an assist from Riley Riedel (Marilla, NY/Iroquois) to make the score 4-1. The Bengals would continue to pour it on after Byrne's goal as they added four additional goals to lead 8-1 at the half.
In the first 10 minutes of the second half, the Bengals increased their lead to 13-1. D'Youville would score three of the next four goals as Sierra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) scored a pair and Paige Robinson (Kenmore, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy) added a goal. Buffalo State would add one more goal on their way to victory, defeating the Spartans by the final score of 15-4.
Brooks led the team with two goals on five shots and four shots on goal. Byrne and Robinson each added a goal with Riedel and Tiffany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) both tallying one assist each. Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic) and Amanda Waliszewski (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) recorded four ground balls each. Riedel added three and a team high four draw controls.
The next game for the women comes this Saturday, March 16 as they play at Elmira at 3:00pm.
