Elmira, NY- The D'Youville women's lacrosse team defeated Elmira College 16-4 on Saturday, March 16.
The Spartans came out strong, scoring a goal in the first three minutes of the game. Elmira matched the goal at 8:21 into the game. The Golden Eagles did not hold the tie long, with Marissa Markott (Sanborn, NY / Niagara-Wheatfield) scoring two goals in the next five minutes
Riley Riedel (Marilla, NY / Iroquois) added another when the Spartans had a man-up to make it 4-1. Moments later Elmira scored to close their deficit to two goals. Markott scored again with three minutes to go in the half, and Paige Robinson (Kenmore, NY / Mt. St. Mary Academy) scored off a free position shot with four seconds to go to make the score 6-2 at the end of the half.
The second half was much like first for D'Youville with Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY / Niagara Catholic) scoring at 1:10 into the second half. Markott would add another four minutes later, and Sierra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/ Grand Island) six minutes later.
After an Elmira timeout, Campbell came out and scored again to make it 10-2. Elmira would make it three with a goal. Tiffany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY / Niagara-Wheatfield) went to make it 11 for the Spartans, and two minutes later, Elmira would add their last goal of the game at 11:21 left in regulation.
Isabella Lucania (Webster, NY / Webster-Schroeder) and Cristofanelli would each grab their second goals of the game at 9:15 and 7:30 left. Brooks would score two more goals and Cristofanelli would add her third in-between the two.
The Spartans are back in action Wednesday, March 20 when they head to Fredonia at 5 PM.
