Aurora, NY – The D'Youville women's lacrosse team played in their second road conference game in as many days as they fell to the Wells Express by the final score of 20-12.
D'Youville went ahead over Wells in the first seven minutes of play with goals from Marissa Markott (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Tiffany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) to make the score 2-1. The Express would then score the next three goals to take a 4-2 lead before Paige Robinson (Kenmore, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy) would score her first of the game with the Spartans trailing 4-3.
With Robinson's second goal, the game kept D'Youville within one at 5-4, but Wells would then get on a roll. They would score seven unanswered goals to close out the first half as they took a 12-4 lead into halftime.
The second half opened up with the first two goals coming from the Spartans. Isabella Lucania (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder) and Cristofanelli each scored to bring the deficit down to six before Wells would answer with three goals.
Throughout the remainder of the game, D'Youville continued to fight to get back into striking distance. Markott tallied three additional goals with Robinson and Cristofanelli scoring their third goals of the game, but the women were unable to overcome their first half deficit as they fell to Wells by the finals score 20-12.
Markott led the team with four goals in the game with her and Sierra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) each tallying a team high two assists. Cristofanelli and Robinson each had three goals with Brooks and Lucania scoring one each.
Goalie Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) played all 60 minutes in goal for the women. Alison Gareis (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary) led the team with three ground balls while three others tallied two. Five different players had two caused turnovers while Cristofanelli led the way with five.
The next game for the women comes next Saturday, April 13 as they play at Keuka at 1:00pm.
