Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville women's lacrosse team was defeated by the first place Morrisville State Mustangs on Saturday morning by the final score of 17-6.
Morrisville State scored the first three goals of the game to lead 3-0 after 23:37. Tiffany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) would respond 0:24 later with the Spartans first goal as the women trailing 3-1. The Mustangs would then score three more before Sierra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) tallied her first goal of the game nearly halfway through the first to make the score 6-2.
Through the final 11 minutes of the first, Morrisville State outscored D'Youville 4-2 to lead 10-4 at halftime with Marissa Markott (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Riley Riedel (Marilla, NY/Iroquois) scoring their firsts of the game.
Through the first 12 minutes of the second half, the Mustangs scored four more goals to go up by 10 at 14-4. D'Youville would score two more through the remainder of the game Brooks and Cristofanelli scoring their seconds of the game as the women lost by the score of 17-6.
Brooks and Cristofanelli led the team with two goals each while Markott and Riedel each had one goal. Isabella Lucania (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder) and Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic) each tallied one assist.
Julia Prychodko (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) and Clarice Byrne (Boston, NY/Hamburg) recorded six ground balls each with Riedel grabbing five. Cristofanelli led the team with eight draw controls while Riedel forced six caused turnovers and Prychodko had three. Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) made eight saves in the game.
The next game for the women is the last home game of the season as they host the Hilbert Hawks this Wednesday, April 24 at 7:00pm for the team's senior game.
