D'Youville Routes Hilbert for First Ever NEAC Victory

Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville women's lacrosse team closed out the home portion of their 2019 schedule with their first ever NEAC win, blowing out the Hilbert Hawks by the final score of 20-2.

It took less than 0:20 for D'Youville to get on the board as Marissa Markott (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) began the scoring for the Spartans. The next three goals would come from different players as Isabella Lucania (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder), Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic), and Paige Robinson (Kenmore, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy) each tallied their firsts of the game to put D'Youville up 4-0 through six minutes of play.

Markott would go on to score her second while Clarice Byrne (Boston, NY/Hamburg) scored one before Tiffany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) scored three consecutive goals to put the Spartans up 9-0. Amber Lundrigan (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and Margaret Merigold (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy) each scored for D'Youville on the team's way to a 15-1 halftime lead.

The dominance from the Spartans continued into the second half. Sierra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) scored the first goal of the half to put D'Youville up 16-1. Kaylee Heschke (Newfane, NY/Newfane) and Julie Fleming (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy) would each score their first career goals as the game wore down with D'Youville going on to defeat Hilbert 20-2.

Markott led the team with four goals in the game, followed by Cristofanelli and Robinson scoring three each. Merigold and Lundrigan each scored a pair of goals while Brooks, Lucania, Campbell, Heschke, Fleming, and Byrne each scored one. Brooks led the way with three assists as Campbell and Lundrigan each tallied two.

Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) faced just six shots in the game, making four saves. Her defense had a very strong game with three different players grabbing three ground balls each and Riley Riedel (Marilla, NY/Iroquois) led the team with five. Riedel led the team with seven draw controls with Merigold tallying four.

The defensive unit of Alison Gareis (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary), Dominique Riforgiato (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), Julia Prychodko (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora), Rachel McMahan (Grand Island, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), and Amanda Waliszewski (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) all played well in the win. Allison Schuman (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), Anna Hayes (Hamburg, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy), Rebecca Clemons (Holland, NY/Holland), Olivia Manzella (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk), and Savanah Pencille (Lockport, NY/Lockport) all saw extended playing time against the Hawks.

D'Youville will hit the road for their final two games of the season, beginning with Lancaster Bible this Friday at 4:00pm and closing out their season this Saturday at 1:00pm at Penn State-Abington.
