Women's Soccer Edged in Overtime

Buffalo, N.Y.-Hiram's Kailie Reed drove home a free kick 6:09 into overtime giving the visitors a hard fought 1-0 win over D'Youville.

In the first half, each team had two quality scoring chances.

D'Youville's Danielle Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) was stopped on a breakaway in the sixth minute. Rachel Hermanski (Buffalo, NY/Maryvale) got loose and shot wide with 30 seconds left.

Hiram shot wide in the fifteenth minute and just missed on a cross in the twenty-third minute.

The Terrier's best chance in the second half came in the 67th minute when an Abby Rowe shot from eight yards out was stopped by Spartan goalkeeper Christina Ventresca (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield).

The Spartans best second-half chance came in the 75th minute when Gehen pushed a bouncing ball wide. Rebecca Alvira (Buffalo, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) had a shot and Lauren Walsh (Kenmore, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) put one on net two minutes into overtime.

D'Youville held an edge in shots (10-6) and shots on goal (5-2).  The Spartans see their early shutout streak to start the season end at 186:09.
