Spartan's Offense Back on Track, Spartans beat Wells 9-0

Aurora, N.Y.- Entering today's non-conference match at Wells College, the D'Youville College women's soccer team was in the midst of a goal drought. The Spartans had gone 250-straight minutes of play over the last two-plus matches without finding the net.

59 seconds after kickoff, a long range shot from Melissa LaVere (Clarence, NY/Williamsville East) found the net and ended the scoreless skid. Then it began to rain goals.

D'Youville scored five more times in the first-half, tacked on three more after halftime, and defeated Wells 9-0.

Seven different Spartans scored goals today. The only player with a pair of markers was Danielle Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West). The program's all-time leading scorer tallied the team's third goal in the 11th minute and sixth goal in the 31st minute. Gehen is tied for the team lead in goals with four along with Rebecca Alvira (Buffalo, NY/Mount Mercy Academy). Alvira scored her fourth of the season in the 29th minute.

Recording their first career goals were sophomore Rachel Pandolfe (Depew, NY/Lancaster) along with freshmen Jammi Cammalleri (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and Rachel Hermanski (Buffalo, NY/Maryvale).

Also scoring was Colleen Wiechec (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda), her first of the season.

Goalkeeper Christina Ventresca (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) made three saves to earn her fourth shutout of the season. The senior netminder season's goals against average lowers to 0.59 per game on the season and her save percentage stands at .865. Both are career-highs.

The win ended the team's two match winless streak and improves the Spartan's overall record to 4-2-2.
