Penn State Behrend Gets Wins in Three Sports over Spartan Squads

Williamsville, NY & Erie, PA-In three sports, D'Youville College squared off against Penn State Behrend in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play.

Women's tennis was the only Spartan team at home and visiting Behrend left Miller Tennis Center with a 9-0 win.

Next for tennis is a match at Franciscan University October 4.

Men's and women's soccer made the westbound journey on Interstate 90 to face Behrend in Erie, Pennsylvania.

In the men's game, D'Youville goalkeeper Matt Smith (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) shined. Smith stopped 8 first-half shots and was beaten only once allowing the Spartans to go into halftime down 1-0. Penn State Behrend scored twice in the second frame to take the contest 3-0. Smith finished the match with 12 saves and has recorded 10-plus stops in back-to-back matches.

The women's game saw Penn State Behrend score 1:34 into the game, then tack on another at the 10:56 mark, and win by the count of 4-0. The Spartans generated six shots on goal.

The soccer squads play at Penn State Altoona October 5. The men's game starts the doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. followed by the women's game at 3:00 p.m.
