Early Goal Stands Up, Women's Soccer Win Fourth-Straight

Buffalo, NY-A goal from midfielder Melissa LaVere (Clarence, NY/Williamsville East) 9:30 into the game was the only tally of the game and the D'Youville women's soccer team runs their winning streak to four and unbeaten streak to five with a 1-0 win over Franciscan University.

Rebecca Alvira (Buffalo, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) assisted on the goal. It was Alvira's second-straight game with an assist and LaVere's second-straight game with a goal.

The Spartans defense was the star tonight. Franciscan did not record a shot on goal until the 75th minute ad that was handled by goalkeeper Christina Ventresca (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) for her eighth shutout of the season.

The hard fought win keeps D'Youville in second-place in the AMCC standings, one point ahead of Pitt-Bradford. The Spartans are 5-1-1 in AMCC play, 9-4-3 overall.

Next on the schedule for D'Youville is a match at Hilbert College October 23 at 3:00 p.m.
