Gehen First-Half Hat Trick Leads D'Youville Past Hilbert

Orchard Park, NY-On a damp and chilly night, D'Youville College forward Danielle Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) got hot early. The Spartan's all-time leading scorer netted three first-half goals and D'Youville rolled past Hilbert 4-0.

Gehen opened the game's scoring just 2:37 into the contest by converting a rebound off the goal post. Elizabeth Lyons (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) took the shot that caromed off the post and was credited with an assist.

Number 20 then found the net in the 19th minute and 29th minute for her fifth career hat trick. Gehen now has a team-leading nine goals on the season. It was also the 13th time in her storied career that Gehen has scored two or more goals in a game.

D'Youville made it 4-0 just before halftime when Lyons scored her second of the season in the 42nd minute. Terra Juda (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) got the assist.

It was also another stellar night for the defense. The Spartan's back line allowed only four shots, with only one hitting the target and that was stopped by goalkeeper Christina Ventresca (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield). It was Ventresca's conference leading ninth shutout of the season.

D'Youville has won five-straight matches, tying a team record set in 2010 and 2012. The Spartans are also unbeaten in their last six (5-0-1) and that is new team record.

The Spartans are 6-1-1 in AMCC play, 10-4-3 overall, and need only a tie in their final regular season match October 26 at Mount Aloysius to clinch second-place in the final conference standings.
