Second-Half Goals End Spartan's Season

Buffalo, NY-In the end, the AMCC's top defensive team was stymied the conference's top two scorers. A pair of second-half goals pushed visiting Pitt-Bradford to a 2-0 win over D'Youville College.

Pitt-Bradford's Melissa Smith, the AMCC scoring leader, scored her 25th goal of the season off a crossing pass from Maggie Boehler at the 57:56 mark to go up 1-0.

The goal ended the Spartan's three-plus match shutout streak at 381:36.

The goal came seven minutes after D'Youville almost scored the game's first goal. Spartan forward Danielle Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) peeled off a defender inside the box and ripped a shot off the crossbar.

The Panthers scored the insurance goal when Boehler took possession of a ball that squirted away from the D'Youville defense and tapped home the game's second goal at 78:54. The goal was Boehler's 17th of the season for the player second on the AMCC scoring list.

The Spartan's last chance to get on the board came in the 86th minute when a Colleen Wiechec (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) penalty kick sailed wide.

Gehen represented the most opportunities for scoring, totaling 9 shots, 7 on goal. Rebecca Alvira (Buffalo, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) was next with 3.

Pitt-Bradford advances to play in the AMCC Championship at Penn State Behrend November 9.

D'Youville ends their season with a 11-5-3 record. It is the third time in three season the Spartans have won 11 matches under Head Coach Lew Potter.
