Strong Offense Continues As Women's Soccer Dominates Wells

Aurora, NY – The D'Youville women's soccer team turned in another impressive performance to begin their season on Sunday afternoon, defeating the host Wells College Express by the final score of 5-1.

D'Youville immediately took it to the defense of Wells with freshman Magan Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) firing her first shot on the Express goalie 1:27 into the game. Others including Mikaylynn Tinnerman (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca), Terra Juda (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Jenna Tomizzi (Buffalo, NY/Sacred Heart) all put pressure on the defense as well, each registering a shot or a corner kick in the first 10 minutes of the game.

At 12:27 into the first half, Magee broke through the opposing defense and scored the first goal of the game. Juda assisted on the goal, passing the ball to Magee who carried it up the left side and scored her first of the game.

For the next 20 minutes of action, the Spartans would continue to attack the Express. Following a barrage of shots and corner kicks, Nicole LaVere (Clarence, NY/Williamsville East) got behind the Wells goalie and scored off an assist from Rebecca Alivra (Buffalo, NY/Mount Mercy Academy).

With just under a minute left in the first half of play, Magee netted her second goal of the game off of another assist from Alvira. Rachel Hermanski (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) earned her first assist of the season after sending the ball to Alvira who headed the ball to Magee for her second of the afternoon.

Picking up where they left off in the first, the Spartans put two more goals in on Wells before 10 minutes had passed in the second half. Terra Juda beat the goal one-on-one for her first goal just 5 minutes in with Alriva getting her third consecutive assist. For Juda's second goal, Elizabeth Lyons (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) sent a long pass to Juda, who again beat the keeper one-on-one.

Wells would score a goal to stop the shutout, but one goal would be all they could muster as the Spartans defeated Wells by the final score of 5-1.

Making her second consecutive start, freshman Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) made 6 saves on 7 shots for her second win of the season. Two other new faces, Emily Ward (Leonardsville, NY/Mount Markham) and Kailee Juzdowski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), had another strong game as the new center back pairing for the Spartans.

On the outside, Elizabeth Lyons and Rachel Hermanski played well on defense and offense as both players recorded assists. Rebecca Alvira, Nicole LaVere and Terra Juda all were strong in the midfield, with each scoring a goal, tallying an assist or both. Magan Magee had her first 2 goal game of the season and leads the team with 3 goals.

The women terrorized the Wells defense all game long, recording 27 shots, 15 of which were on goal. D'Youville's defense gave up only 7 shots on goal and 12 shots overall.

On Tuesday, September 15th at 7pm, the women's soccer team will begin their home portion of the schedule as they will host Oswego State for their first of three home games this week.
