Brockport Gives Women's Soccer First Loss of the Season

Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season on Wednesday night, falling to the Brockport Golden Eagles by the final score of 1-0.

Brockport was on the offensive to begin the first half. Goalkeeper Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) had to make a pair of saves in the first 10 minutes of the game to keep it scoreless. The D'Youville defense helped force several high and wide shots from the Brockport attack.

In the 20th minute, a loose ball found a Golden Eagle foot at the top of the box and she sent the ball into the back of the net for the first goal of the game. The Spartans would put on an attack of their own and earn a free kick in the 39th minute. Terra Juda (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) stepped up, but the Brockport keeper made the save and would keep the score 1-0 Brockport heading into the half.

The Spartans came out in the second half and nearly tied the game. Rachel Hermanski (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) had a shot go just wide of the net to keep the score at 1-0. In the 69th minute, Rebecca Sliwowski (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) and Kiernan Johnson (Cherry Valley, IL/Keith School) were right on the doorstep of the Brockport keeper, but she made a tough save to keep her shutout.

The Golden Eagles would apply pressure towards the end of the game to try to add an insurance goal but were unsuccessful. However, Brockport would hold onto their goal advantage and win the game 1-0.

D'Youville surrender their first goal of the season in the game, ending their streak of four shutouts. Dulniak made seven saves on eight shots. On offense, Hermanski led the team with three shots while Ariel Wood (Nunda, NY/Keshequa) led the way with two shots on goal.

The team will host the final game of their four game homestand on Friday, September 16th against Alfred University at 7pm.
