Fredonia, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team closed out their time at Fredonia on Saturday afternoon by tying the Oswego Lakers 0-0 in double overtime.
Oswego State was the aggressor throughout the first half, outshooting the Spartans 10-0 in the half. Goalkeeper Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) made five saves in the half to help keep the game scoreless, leading her team into halftime tied at 0-0.
The Spartans were able to get their first shot off in the 52nd minute as Jillian Golding (Lockport, NY/Lockport) sent a ball on frame, but it was saved by the Oswego keeper. The Lakers would again put the pressure on the D'Youville defense by recording 20 shots in the second half, but the D'Youville women held firm to keep the game scoreless. After 90 minutes, the two teams were deadlocked in a defensive battle as they went into overtime tied at 0-0.
D'Youville's defense continued to be an impenetrable force in both overtime periods. Oswego had five shots in the first 10 minutes of overtime and just one in the second as Dulniak and the Spartans defense held firm, giving D'Youville a 0-0 tie with Oswego.
Dulniak had a great game, making 13 saves and recording her second shutout of the season. The back line of Jenna Tomizzi (Buffalo, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), Dominique Riforgiato (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), Kiernan Johnson (Cherry Valley, IL/Keith School), and Amber Lundrigan (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) were outstand throughout the 1:10:00 of play.
All five players played a huge role for the team this weekend, allowing just one goal on 51 total shots this weekend. The team's leaders in the back, Dulniak and Tomizzi, were named to the Blue Devil Classic All-Tournament Team.
