Brockport, NY – The D'Youville women's soccer team was defeated by the host Brockport Golden Eagles on Wednesday afternoon by the final score of 3-1.
Brockport came out firing on offense in the first half as Spartan goalkeeper Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) made three saves in the first 10 minutes of play. However just over 10 minutes in, Dulniak was beaten one-on-one by the Brockport forward and the Golden Eagles went up 1-0 over D'Youville.
Despite falling behind early, the Spartans answered with their first shot of the game. Midfielder Brittany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) received a pass from Jillian Golding (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and buried it into the Brockport goal, tying the game at 1-1 less than three minutes after the Golden Eagles took the lead.
Throughout the remainder of the half, Brockport would maintain a presence in the Spartan's defensive end. Dulniak was forced to make six saves in the final 30 minutes-plus of the first half, helping keep her team at a 1-1 tie going into halftime.
The game remained tied 25 minutes into the second half before Brockport scored their second of the game to take the lead at 2-1. Just eight minutes later, the Golden Eagles doubled their lead to 3-1 after continuing to hold the ball in the Spartan's defensive third. The D'Youville women were unable to put another goal on the board before regulation ran out as Brockport defeated D'Youville by the final score of 3-1.
Dulniak had a very busy afternoon, recording a season high of 17 saves. The team had a total of five shots coming from five different players. Cristofanelli scored her first goal of the season, with Golding picking up her first collegiate point on her assist.
The next game for the women will come this Saturday, September 16 as they travel to Alfred University to play the Saxons at 7:00pm.
