Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville women's soccer team suffered their second consecutive shutout on Saturday afternoon, losing to the visiting Franciscan Barons by the final score of 1-0.
It was a defensive battle in the first half for the two teams. The Spartans outshot Franciscan 6-4 in the first half with Amber Lundrigan (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and Cassandra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) each recording shots on goal. However, neither team created a threatening scoring chance as the two teams went into the half tied at zero.
The game was not scoreless for long once the second half got underway. On their first shot of the half the Barons made it a 1-0 game with an open shot in front of net. D'Youville did their best to tie the game, recording 10 shots in the second half, but none could find the back of the next. Franciscan held on for the remainder of the game, defeating D'Youville by the final score of 1-0.
Magan Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) and Kiernan Johnson (Cherry Valley, IL/Keith School) led the team with three shots each. All three of Magee's shots were on goal. In total, D'Youville had 16 shots with 10 different players recording at least one. In goal, Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) made six saves.
D'Youville will next play on Wednesday, October 4 as they host Medaille at 7:15pm.
