Women's Soccer to Host First Round Playoff Game Following Tie Against Panthers

Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville women's soccer team clinched the fourth seed in the AMCC playoffs on Tuesday evening following their 0-0 double overtime tie against the Pitt.-Bradford Panthers.

Kiernan Johnson (Cherry Valley, IL/Keith School) nearly put the Spartans in front under three minutes into the game with a pair of shots that challenged the Bradford defense. However the team couldn't score before the Panthers came down the field and began to put on some offensive pressure of their own. Neither team could create a solid scoring chance after a busy first few minutes as the two teams went into the half tied 0-0.

Bradford then began to take over on offense in the second half, outshooting the Spartans 8-4. In the final six minutes of play, D'Youville nearly took the lead on two opportunities. Jillian Golding (Lockport, NY/Lockport) had a shot saved before Jenna Tomizzi (Buffalo, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) had a diving header go over the bar with less than five minutes to go. The Panthers had a late chance but the game remained scoreless and went to overtime.

The first overtime period was dominated by the Panthers on offense. They outshot D'Youville 7-0 in the first overtime period, but could not break the Spartan's defense. Bradford then outshot the Spartans 3-1 in the second overtime period but again the D'Youville defense would come up big and the game would end in a 0-0 tie.

Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) had several huge saves to keep the game scoreless. She made 12 saves in her fifth consecutive shutout and eighth shutout of the season. Golding led the offense with three shots, all on goal. Johnson and Tomizzi each had two shots and one shot on goal.

The women will host La Roche on Saturday, October 28 at 2:00pm. D'Youville is the fourth seed in the AMCC playoffs while La Roche is the fifth.
