Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team was defeated by the cross-town rival Buffalo State Bengals on Tuesday evening by the score of 4-1.
Buffalo State made it a 1-0 score rather quickly in the game, scoring in the 8th minute. D'Youville would step up their defensive efforts throughout the remainder of the first half and the two teams went into the half with the Bengals leading 1-0.
Through the first 25 minutes of the second half, it continued to be a one-goal game. In a series of two minutes, Buffalo State lead would triple. The Bengals scored the first of the pair of goals on a shot from outside the box in the 75th minute, followed by a chip-shot in the 76th minute to make it a 3-0 game.
The barrage of goals from the Bengals didn't stop as in the 80th minute as Buffalo State added their fourth goal in the game four a 4-0 lead with 10 minutes to go in the game.
Despite being down late, D'Youville kept up the pressure and eventually broke through the Bengal defense. With less than 0:10 remaining in the game, Kaylee Heschke (Newfane, NY/Newfane) had a corner that bounced around in the box and found the foot of Isabella Lucania (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder). Just 0:04 before the final horn sounded, Lucania found the back of the net to end the Buffalo State shutout and make the final score 4-1.
Lucania scored her first career goal in the game and registered the only shot for the women. Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) made eight saves in the game with Clarice Byrne (Boston, NY/Hamburg) coming in for relief of Dulniak, make a pair of saves. Both Jordyn Riedel (Marilla, NY/Iroquois) and Jamiliah McBryde (Buffalo, NY/Erie CC) made their first career starts against Buffalo State.
The next game for the women comes this Friday, September 14 as they host Houghton at 7:00pm.
