Buffalo, NY - The two top teams in the AMCC will face off on Saturday afternoon as the undefeated D'Youville women's soccer team host the undefeated Mount Aloysius Mounties at Dobson Field.
D'Youville rides a four-game winning streak and a six-game unbeaten streak into Saturday's game against Mount Aloysius. The women are currently tied for first in the conference with the Mounties with first place on the line Saturday.
The Spartans have been led by their defense as all five of their conference victories this season have been via shutout. Their lone tie was also a 1-1, the only goal the women have surrendered in conference play this season - the lowest goals allowed total in the conference.
Senior goalkeeper Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) has been the best goalkeeper in the conference statistically as she is only one of two goalkeepers to play and start six games. She is first in shutouts (5), minutes played (560), saves (49), and wins (5). She is second in goals allowed (1) and goals allowed average (0.16) only to a player that has two games played in goal. Her back line of Dominique Riforgiato (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), Magan Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack), Isabella Lucania (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder), Anna Hayes (Hamburg, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy), and Cassandra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) have supported Dulniak throughout the season and been the team's most solid unit.
On offense, Makenna Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) and Brittany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) have been the top offensive players for the women. Makenna has scored in four of the last five games while Cristofanelli is tied for second on the team in goals and second in points. Jamiliah McBryde (Buffalo, NY/Erie CC) has added a pair of goals herself while from the back, Magan Magee and Brooks have added a pair of assists each. In the midfield, Maggie Leeds (Lockport, NY/Akron) has stepped up in recent games to become a key player in the team's success and Kaylee Heschke (Newfane, NY/Newfane) has been a reliable presence.
As for the Mounties, they have one of the most potent scoring attacks in the AMCC. With 15 goals in conference play they rank third overall with the Spartans coming in fourth. Aloysius is led offensively by Cheyenne Kuncher who has scored nine goals with two assists in all competitions. She is followed by Jordan Gebhart who has five goals and three assists this season.
Kuncher and Gebhart were both AMCC First Team All-Conference players last season, as well was goalkeeper Leanne Cardoso-Bastos and defender Summer Schell. Sam Torrenti, Brianna Byler, Katie Mirance, and Amanda Brancato were all second and third team all-conference last season.
Mount Aloysius had a great start to their season by winning their first six games. They are yet to lose this season and have tied two games, one in conference against Penn State-Altoona.
Saturday's game will not only be the AMCC Game of the Week, but it is the Spartan's senior day. Game time for the first-place showdown is 1:00pm at Dobson Field.
