Buffalo, NY - the D'Youville women's soccer team wrapped up their regular season on Tuesday evening, falling to the Penn State-Behrend Lions 7-0.
Behrend was active on offense early in the game. They outshot the Spartans 9-1 in the first 21 minutes of action as five of those shots were on goal. In the 23rd minute, the Lions broke through to score their first goal of the game on a shot that deflected in front of goal. The Spartans did a great job throughout the rest of the half to limit quality scoring chances as the first half ended with Behrend still leading 1-0.
The Lions took control of the game rather immediately in the second half. They scored four goals within the first 9:07 of play in the second to lead 5-0. They added two more goals in the final 10 minutes of the game to win by the final of 7-0.
Goalkeeper Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) made 11 saves in the game with Clarice Byrne (Boston, NY/Hamburg) making three in relief. Margret Leeds (Lockport, NY/Akron) and Kaylee Heschke (Newfane, NY/Newfane) accounted for both shots in the game for the women, both of which were on goal.
D'Youville clinched the third seed in the AMCC playoffs on Saturday with their opponent being known following the game on Tuesday evening. The Spartans will host the six-seeded Franciscan Barons this Saturday, October 27 at Dobson Field at 3:00pm.
