What: AMCC Playoffs - First Round
Where: Buffalo, NY / Dobson Field
When: Saturday, October 27 - 3:00pm
Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team was one of the best team's in the AMCC this season and the women have their sights on the championship game after getting to within one game of the championship game in 2017.
With a 5-0-1 start to their conference schedule, the women were at the top of the conference for the first several weeks of the season and have been one of the best defensive teams in the conference this season. In eight of nine conference games this season, the Spartans allowed two goals. In six games they have recorded a shutout and they have allowed one or less goals in eight total games.
Goalkeeper Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) has been the backbone of the team. In each of the team's five wins, Dulniak has recorded a shutout. She is first in save percentage (.935) and shutouts (6), second in saves (86), save percentage (0.66), and minutes played (813:07), third in wins (5), and fourth in goals allowed (6) in conference play this season.
Dulniak's success couldn't have been had without her defensive line. Magan Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack), Dominique Riforgiato (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), Isabella Lucania (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder), Anna Hayes (Hamburg, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy), and Cassandra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) have been outstanding in front of Dulniak to slow down attacks and fortify the team's strength.
Offensively, the reigning AMCC Newcomer of the Year Makenna Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) has been the team's main offensive producer. Magee leads the team with four goals as Jamiliah McBryde (Buffalo, NY/Erie CC) and Brittany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) had added two goals each.
In the midfield, Kaylee Heschke (Newfane, NY/Newfane) has been an extension of the defense and has been rock solid for the women. Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Catholic) has been a playmaker for the women in the midle and the outside with freshmen Margret Leeds (Lockport, NY/Akron), Laurie Poeller (Akron, NY/Akron), and Katelyn Eigenbrod (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) have all adjusted extremely well to the college game and are regulars in the lineup.
D'Youville faced off against Franciscan last weekend in which the team's tied 0-0 after double overtime. The Spartans had several big opportunities to score in their game against the Barons, including a penalty kick in the first few minutes of the game. With the defense playing a strong game against the Barons, the D'Youville offense was able to create against the Franciscan defense and threaten several times.
Franciscan ended the season with a 2-4-1 record in October as their one tie came against the Spartans last week. They have allowed 15 goals in conference play, scoring 14.
Following today, the winner will advance to play the second seeded Mount Aloysius Mounties on Wednesday at Mount Aloysius at 5:00pm.
