Cresson, PA – The D'Youville women's soccer team saw their season come to an end on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Mount Aloysius Mounties in the AMCC semi-finals by the final score of 1-0.
Offensively, each team started slowly until the first shot was recorded in the 11th minute, coming off the foot of an Aloysius player. Each offense would begin to generate their opportunities with the Mounties tallying three shots over the next 12 minutes and Maggie Leeds (Lockport, NY/Akron) having two shots of her own blocked.
In the 24th minute, a foul took place in the D'Youville box that led to a penalty kick for Mount Aloysius. The Mounties shooter converted the penalty kick opportunity to take the 1-0 lead midway through the first half. Throughout the rest of the half there were no real opportunities from either team as Mount Aloysius led 1-0 after 45 minutes.
The Spartans came out in the second with a great scoring chance in the 51st minute, but the Aloysius keeper came up with the save. With three shots on goal in a 12-minute span, it appeared that the Mounties had taken control of the game, but D'Youville held firm on defense and was able to create for themselves on offense.
With time running out, the Spartans had one final chance to tie the game in the 89th minute. Leeds connected on a header that was on frame, but again the Mounties keeper came up with the save to keep D'Youville off the board. The horn would sound nearly a minute later as the second seeded Mounties defeated the third seeded Spartans 1-0.
Goalkeeper Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) made five saves in the game as D'Youville totaled seven shots. Leeds registered four of them with Jamiliah McBryde (Buffalo, NY/Erie CC), Cassandra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), and Makenna Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) each recording a shot of their own.
