Depew, NY - Wednesday, May 1 marked a day of celebration and recognition for all of D'Youville's student-athletes at the yearly Athletics Awards Banquet at Salvatore's Hospitality.
Head coach Jim Hesch and assistant coaches Rey Martinez, Alexis Krose, and Kiernan Johnson presented the awards to their D'Youville women's soccer team.
Freshman Anna Hayes (Hamburg, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy) was named the team's Most Improved Player in her first season with the team. Hayes started 18 of 19 games as a freshman at defense and was part of one of the best defensive units in the conference. Her athleticism and ability to play the ball out of the back greatly helped a young defense.
Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic) was the recipient of the team's Spartan Award as she concluded her junior season with the women. Campbell was an extremely versatile player for the women throughout the season. Switching between defense and midfield, Marina played in whatever role her teammates needed. Her high soccer IQ, as well as technical ability and leadership all propelled the women to the second round of the AMCC playoffs. The Spartan Award represents a player who exemplifies teamwork, passion and a dedication to their team.
Winning her first award of the evening was senior goalkeeper Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) as she concluded her career by being named the team's Most Valuable Player. One of the best players in the conference throughout her career, Megan capped off her career by being named an AMCC First Team All-Conference player and the AMCC Defensive Player of the Year.
At the end of the regular season, Dulniak led the conference in save percentage (.866), was tied for second in shutouts (6), third in saves (136), tied for fourth in wins (5), and fifth in goals allowed (21) and goals against average (1.41). The defensive unit as a whole played outstanding all season long. Prior to the beginning of the season, Megan was named AMCC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and was an AMCC Defensive Player of the Week selection twice (10/1, 10/8).
