Cassandra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) scored the team's first goal of the season after a great hustle play from Makenna Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) for an early lead. In addition to the outstanding offensive play from the women, the team's defense played outstanding. Sophomore goalkeeper Laurie Poeller (Akron, NY/Akron) made both saves she was tasked with in the victory as her starting defense of Dominique Riforgiato (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), Isabella Lucania (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder), Anna Hayes (Hamburg, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy), and Sarah Milczarski (Newfane, NY/Newfane) got the start on defense.
Alexandra Samson (Hadley, NY/Hadley-Luzerne), Calmes, and Francesca Kobee (North Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy) all saw extended playing time in the game and played extremely well. Grabrielle Czech (Alden, NY/Alden), Rachel McMahan (Grand Island, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), and Lizzie Priest (Fairport, NY/Fairport) added valuable minutes in the win.
As for the offense, Jordan Pachla (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) was a threat on offense throughout the game in her first career game for the women. Magee, Brooks, Mariacher, Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic), Cristofanelli, and Eigenbrod were all very effective in the offensive end all game long.
The women will play their second game of the Spartan Classic tomorrow as they play the Alfred University Saxons at 2:30pm.
