Brooks Named AMCC Defensive Player of the Week

Buffalo, NY - Junior Cassie Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) had yet another impressive game at both ends of the field in Saturday's 2-1 victory over La Roche, earning herself AMCC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Brooks tallied her second assist of the season on the team's first goal of the game in the win rainy and windy win over the Redhawks Saturday afternoon. On the defensive end, Cassie helped limit La Roche to just eight shots, five of which were on goal.

At both ends of the field, Cassie has been impressive and important part of the team's success. She is tied for the team lead in assists and is tied for second in goals with two – all from her left back position.

As a freshman in 2017, Brooks started all 19 games for the women where she tied for third in shots on goal (10) and tied for fifth in shots (16). Last season she again started 19 games but played a larger defensive role for the Spartans and helped the team record six shutouts. Despite being on the defensive end, Cassie played a big role in the offensive game as she tied for the team lead in assists (2).

In the spring of 2018, Brooks played on the women's lacrosse team and appeared in six games. Her sister Sierra is a senior on the lacrosse team this season.

Cassie played four years of soccer at Grand Island High School and played club for Black Watch Premier. She is a Nursing major and the daughter of Tammy and Kerry Brooks.
