Greensburg, PA - The D'Youville women's soccer team took on the top team in the AMCC Saturday afternoon as they fell to the Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats by the final score of 2-0.
It wasn't before long that the Bobcats showed why they were the best offensive team in the conference as they scored their first goal on the game in the 9th minute for a 1-0 lead. For the next dozen minutes following their goal, Greensburg would apply pressure to the defense of D'Youville, but no real dangerous chances would come the way of the Spartans as they trailed at half 1-0.
Much like they did in the first half, the Bobcats struck early as they netted their second goal of the game in the 51st minute to increase their lead to 2-0. D'Youville would have a chance on goal in the minutes following the Greensburg goal, but nothing would amount for the women until the final 10 minutes of play.
The Spartans stepped up their game in the final 10 minutes of play, registering four shots, including three shots on goal to take it to the Bobcats. However, the top defensive team in the AMCC held firm as they would defeat D'Youville 2-0.
Greensburg would register eight shots on goal, just three more than the Spartans. Of those eight shots, goalkeeper Laurie Poeller (Akron, NY/Akron) made six saves. Maggie Leeds (Lockport, NY/Akron) led the team with three shots and two shots on goal while Cassie Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) added two shots.
Makenna Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack), Isabella Lucania (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder), Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic), and Aussie Mariacher (Elma, NY/Iroquois) each had a shot in the game.
D'Youville will next play this Wednesday, October 9 as they host the Hilbert Hawks at 7:15pm.
